Left 4 Dead 2 DLC - The Passing

Postby Xavier » March 20th, 2010, 12:46 am

Anyone looking forward to this as much as I am? It's coming out on April 22nd and it looks like it's going to be awesome. I'll start by listing everything that we know is coming with it so far:

OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE: Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

*Latest Information has a GREEN color.

Warning: This may contain spoilers.

  • New 3 map campaign titled "The Passing."
  • Achievements.
  • Bug/exploit fixes.
  • Campaign, Versus, Scavenge, Survival, and the maps for new game mode for The Passing are included.
  • Campaign is fully at night (unlike all of the other campaigns).
  • New firearm: M60.
    • Only has starting ammo of 150.
    • Ammo cannot be replenished.
    • Very powerful.
  • New melee weapon: Golf Club Driver.
  • New "Uncommon Zombie": Fallen Survivor.
    • Has a large amount of health.
    • Will sometimes have supplies on him.
    • Runs away from you.
  • New Common Infected.
  • New Witch look.
    • Ripped bridal gown.
  • Old survivors from L4D1 make an appearance.
  • New game mode.
    • Supposedly it is a cooperative game mode, so it should be survivor only.
    • New Info (3/23): In Valve's recent blog post, they said they are releasing game modes, meaning more than one game mode! Read it here.
    • New Info (4/20): Valve's new game mode dubbed "Mutations" isn't really a game mode itself, but will introduce a series of weekly game mode events. For example one week they will do "Realism Versus", and then the next week they might do "Chainsaw Massacre," where the four survivors only have chainsaws, but have unlimited fuel. More info on this will be talked about tomorrow (Wednesday).

  • New Info (3/20): One of the L4D1 survivors will not show up in The Passing because they are dead. You will see how they die in the upcoming DLC for L4D1 coming out in the summer sometime. I personally think it will be Bill because he is the oldest, he is the type of guy who would sacrifice himself, and Jim French (Bill's voice actor) didn't do any voice acting for the Crash Course DLC for L4D1, so I guess he hard to get a hold of.
  • New Info (3/27): The Passing is not coming out in March, as sites such as Kotaku and Shacknews say. Now the release date is the vauge "Spring", which doesn't even make sense because we have been in Spring since March 20th. I also love how Valve can't announce this themselves, other sites have to do it for them.
  • New Info (4/12): The Passing now has an unofficial release of April 27th, but more than likely you can expect it to come out on that day because they have it on "good word" that it is.
  • New Info (4/16): Valve made a new blog post today and said that the Passing will be released NEXT WEEK, most likely meaning April 20th. I really hope that's when they release it.
  • New Info (4/20): Valve made a blog post last night displaying some of the achievements and vaguely talking about the new game modes for The Passing campaign. The Passing has been confirmed by Valve to be released Thursday, April 22nd!

I think I covered all of it. So that's a hefty amount of stuff for a DLC, I can't wait for it. I hope they fix a lot of the bugs people have been complaining about as well. It's also surprising that they are releasing more than one game mode in this DLC.

Yeah, it will cost 560 MS points which is $7.00. Valve would make it free for Xbox, but Microsoft won't let them. It's free for the PC, though.

And it's safe to say that most, if not all, of the profit made from it is going to Micro$oft and not Valve.

Ah yes, cant wait for this. I play this regularly with two of my friends on the 360 and we love it, my 360 has been broken for a month though and haven't bothered to get it fixed yet (Been buying PC games which I always wanted but never bought instead).

And great the M60... as if it isn't bad enough in Battlfield...

Yeah, I hear a lot of people talk about how the M60 is way too overpowered in that game.
