I have installed Shivering Isles, and I pretty much know what happened, so I am looking for a way to fix it. I recently deleted my Oblivion Game Data to fix a previous problem, and when I loaded my last save game, the doorway to Shivering Isles was missing and all of my SI main quest items were gone...

A few of those are also quest-related. No other ranks beyond whats there. Not really factions in the traditional sense.

I agree with Xavier. That's what I do now. Of course, the higher you progress in levels, the more expensive armor and weapons you will come by. Of course fencing works, too. Just explore EVERYTHING.
