But don't think that the Magna Carta was a great turning point and the birth of freedom. It wasn't for England, and it definately wasn't for Britain in general. Its effect on society lasted about a century at most - within a hundred years most of the clauses had been abandoned, and now only three are left.

I hate to interrupt the history debate but I'll just slide my little opinion under the door. England wouldn't seperate from the UK or Britain or whatever you folks are calling it. It wouldn't end well politically, economically or for the military.
